I started off concerned that since Groupon gave me a huge discount to view this film, it might be a dog, yet, it seems more like of a great marketing move to get some human buzz. I posted last night on Facebook that I loved this film, so that's free advertising for this well done movie.
This is the best effort for McCaughey of this style movie since "A Time to Kill". The story unfolds as the usual man framed for a crime he did not commit. I was dragged in with little to no expectations of anything, but the usual. I hate spoilers, and ruining a good plot. Lets just say that this train was headed down the tracks when it comes off the rails and then heads full speed down another route.
Directed by Brad Furman, a virtual rookie in this role, he does a tremendous job of pace, character development and story telling.
Lincoln lawyer, mixes emotion, humor, and suspense like a great glass of Meritage. Just enough of the right components to end up with the right nose and flavor.
Going in with no expectations might have helped me to say that this is a wonderful contribution to this years long list of horrible films. Its typical that the best in film to get released at the end of the year, timed to get the award season buzz, however that leaves film fans stuck with mostly mutts to sift through.
This is unlikely to win a single nomination from the Academy, it should win at the box office. With the price of films waiting till pay per view isn't a bad strategy here. If you like your films on the big screen and escaping a rainy day, this is a good two hour suspenseful joy ride.
Sorry Gals, Matthew keeps his shirt on, and shows off nothing more than some fine acting talents.
